History of Salat

The first commandment given to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) after the commencement of Prophet Hood was that of Salat. It is said the the Angel Jibriel used to come to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and showed him to perform ablution with water streamed out of rocks which is a prerequisite for performing Salat. He also showed him how to offer prayer. The Prophet PBUH reported all what was happened to Khadija RA when he got back home.

In the beginning Prophet (PBUH) used to pray two cycles of obligatory prayers i.e one in the morning and one in the evening. He never passed a single day without praying from then onwards. In the ninth year of his Prophet hood he was taken by Angel Jibreil to the heavens where Allah commanded him to pray 50 times a day.. On his return from the Divine Presence, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) happened to meet Prophet Moses who suggested Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to seek reduction in the prayers because people of your Ummah could not have carried it.  The Prophet was granted reduction when he sought it from ALLAH. The prayers were reduced to five and replaced the fifty prayers commandment that is why the Muslims are very pleased to the Prophet Moses for this intercession on their behalf.

Types of Ritual Prayers

Ritual Prayers cannot be performed without following various obligations and structure. It embodies both obligatory prayers which we are to offer five times a day at different times and the voluntary prayers which are offered by Muslims before or after the obligatory prayers or any other permissible time.

The Prayer in the Holy Quran

A prayer is called “the pillar of Deen.” by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). It is the most stressed upon element in the Holy Qur’ān. In fact, Allah has mentioned Salat in more than 700 verses of the Holy Quran. Among such verses which highlight its importance in religion.

“Worship at fixed hours hath been enjoined on the believers”
