Salah or Prayer

Prayers Salat are the fundamentals of Islam be performed 5 times a day by every adult Muslim. Islamic law obligates Muslims to follow a number of obligations which are interconnected with prayers. However, in its spirituality, the prayers contain various conditions which represents it’s true essence.

Significance of Salat in the Holy Quran

In the Holy Qur’ān, ALLAH says:

I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship me.”

It means that the very purpose of the creation of mankind is none but to worship His Creator and to obey Him unquestioned.

Submission to Allah’s will

In this way, prayers are a form of submission to ALLAH’s directive of worshipping none others but HIM. Secondly it is an affirmation on the part of a man of his servanthood before His Creator and a complete submission to His omnipotent Will. It is a representation of the fact that that a man is born weak and always needs help from his Creator. Prayers are a direct means of communication with Allah SWT as He is the most merciful and never leave any prayer unanswered so the prayers are a unique way to kneel before Allah SWT by submitting to His will and to glorify Him by praising and remembering Him, as the Holy Qur’ān asserts:

‘’And there is not a thing but hymneth His praise; but ye understand not their praise.’’

Kinds of Salat (Prayer)

There are two kinds of prayers in Islam one is a ritual prayer which is known as Salat which is obligatory on every Muslim to offer five times a day at specified times. The other one is in the form of supplication which is known as dua’a (Prayer). It is a direct communication between ALLAH and the mankind. Both the kinds have got their own significance and importance in terms of a prayer.
